Upon waking up at the Hotel we found that it was in a beautiful spot.  We were going on an early tour though so we had to have an early breakfast and then head out for our tour of Cano Negro.   Cano Negro is up near the Nicaraguan border and is a river tour on a boat to see wildlife.  I was a little scheptical about going on this part of the tour but it was probably the best part of the trip to La Fortuna.  We got on a big tour boat and went down the river and saw cai…

We decided to cross into Nicaragua a different way to the boring old bus route so we got a bus from San Jose to the border town of Los Chiles. We stopped the night and enjoyed a cheap casado (local dish). There were not many gringos in town as this is not the well-trodden route but it was well-worth it for the river journey.

Cano negro is located at the very border to Nicaragua. It is an extensive river delta with a lot of canals. The heat is immense, so don´t forget sunscreen, hat and a lot of water to drink. We saw different monkeys, all type of water birds, turtles, crocodiles, iguanas, huge dragon flies and a lot of frogs. The boat trip was with lunch at the forward deck included - rice, beans, fried banana and tuna salad directly from the cooking pot, homeade tico style.

Differs country, a lot of different kinds of rainforrest. Must travel trough the country! Erg mooi divers land. Veel verschillende soorten regenwouden en landschappen! De moeite waard om rond te trekken.
