The wondeful Ricardo & Veronica Dec 08, 2009
I picked this hostel out of the Lonely Planet (the Chile 2009 book I had a quick look at when I was in Pucon) and it turned out to be a decent recommendation.
The place is owned by Ricardo & Veronica, a Chilean couple, who live on site with their two kids. Its a small place, and what it lacks in facilities, Veronica and Ricardo make up for in helpful and friendly service.
See, the hostel doesn't have the typical western-hostel things like a communcal area, wi-fi or even a kitchen that you can use. It doesn't have dorms as such, but the CLP9,000 (£11/$16) rate is for a private room and includes breakfast, so it ain't bad. The bathrooms are clean and have hot water. The rooms have cable TV, which is a nice change if you just want to veg out.
But Veronica & Ricardo's chat and help is the best thing about this place. tell them what it is that you want to see and they will help you plan it all - buses, vineyards, trains etc, all with the knowledge of people who know the area very well. They don't speak great English, so if can put a few words of Spanish together they will certainly appreciate it.
