The first of December of 2007, I lift to my hotel in Brisbane - Australia at 8:00 am. (Local Time) to reach at the airport in that city to 9:30 am. and starting with destiny to Los Angeles - USA at 12:15 pm. (Australia time). The flight lasted about 13 hours to arrive at Los Angeles at 7:30 am.(local time LAX) so to arrive early an half hour in which I lifted the same day, and after breakfast, lunch and dinner, was soon for breakfast again.
In Los Angeles airport (LAX), I wait the van,...

One more day of waiting to get on that plane and start my adventure. To fill the time, I prepared a few tips for when I travel. Hope it's helpful! Packing Tips: Whenever I travel, I prepare a packing list so I don’t forget anything. (I have a standard form which I customize for each individual trip.) For my trip to SE Asia, I am bringing the following key items: - Breathable, fast drying clothes. W...

We chatted about traveling. I got some rest on the plane but it wasn't a deep sleep. I AM nucking futs...I went straight to work after landing back in Los Angeles Monday morning...CRAZY!!!

I've been asked to submit an article for the Habitat Portugal affiliate newsletter on my experiences on the Habitat trip to Portugal! My guidelines are "your over all experience... the work... the people... the family... the portuguese culture... us here at the office of course "So.. I"m gonna write/edit it here =)I truly feel at one with the earth.. Probably because we are covered in so much of it, along with dust, cement and sweat. When I think about my experience with Habitat Portugal, a h...

After circling 2nd Street numerous times, I finally found The Edison and it was well worth not giving up! I am also glad to know I am not the only one who got lost though!!! :-) I have to admit I have never been to anything like this where I didn't actually know a single person present! Since I only joined this site a couple weeks ago, I had to make sure to study faces and names in hopes of at least recognizing the group!! Doris, MartiniKitty13, was to be in the red dr...

This is now the day after a not so small mini-meetup in Santa Monica, CA.
I get up from being out not too late...about 3am returning home.
The usual stuff happens...breakfast, shower.....the usual stuff.
I call over to Eli.....he is soon to be a Californian by proxy, but still new to the California group of TravBuddies. I call him up. No answer, just left a message. I wanted to see what he was doing. He hadn't been to Los Angeles ever before. He called me back...

the hostel offered a walking (!!!) tour around bel air and beverly hills - a must do, considering me wanting to leave los angeles on glamorous terms :) and as soon as you are in beverly hills you step into a new world: the grass is green, the birds are singing, people are cleaning and the homeless are scared away by community patrols... an oasis in lawalking around the huge celebrity mansions in bel air is crazy, multimillion homes behind huge bushes, one after the other. we even had the chan...

My friend Dave and I have been wanting to do a Baja surf trip for a while, but we had kept delaying it for one reason or another. Then, on Monday, Dave called me up and said that one of his friends had a van, had just been to Baja a few weeks earlier, and wanted to make another trip. All the stars seemed in alignment so we made quick plans to leave for Baja that weekend.I was really excited about the trip and had a hard time sleeping on the Friday right before we left. After a restless night ...

I expected to be stuck in traffic for the late afternoon/early evening ride home but the traffic was very light...what a relief. I don't think I would have been able to stay awake if we were in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Aside from dodging merging 18-wheeler trucks, the brief sandstorm, and the high winds as we traversed the mountain passes from the high desert to the valleys, the drive went smoothly and we got into LA in about 5 hours. Jenn...thanks for being the brave soul ...

If you've read any of my previous blogs, you'll have noticed that almost every trip I take involves a stop at Peet's Coffee before I leave. At the risk of sounding like a Peet's salesman (or Peet's addict), I reluctantly admit that this trip was no different. On the way to the airport, I got my usual vanilla latte, and all was right with the world. My experience at LAX was a bit surreal. First of all, there were hardly any lines anywhere. It took me less than 5 minutes to check in my bags and ...

I met back up with Shane in LA before we headed home to Australia. We did a bunch of touristy things, like Universal Studios but the most exciting thing was waking in middle of the night to find the hotel being all shook up by an earthquake. I have only been in one other earthquake before this one. The previous was one of Australia’s most serious natural disasters killing 13 people and injuring more than 160. This earthquake in LA was a mild one with no serious damage done. Shane miss...

I had been waiting all week to try Ludobites at Breadbar (a special BYOB small plates event by Chef Ludovic LeFebvre sponsored by The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills). Upon arriving, I was pleasantly suprised that the place was already 1/3 full, despite being only 7pm on a Friday. The space is small and cozy with long rectangular tables inside meant for sharing and small tables outside in the patio area. (bonus - they have hooks under the stools so you can stow away...

I was soooo looking forward to this Saturday because the weather forecast was in the high 70's / low 80's and it was February! I had brunch plans in Larchmont, but the moment it was over I trekked over to Venice Beach to join some friends who were enjoying the sunny weather at a beer garden. Parking was crazy! I guess everyone else in town had similar ideas to head to the beach! Some of the little lots were going for as high as $12! (crazy) I admit I was qu...
