We arrived in Los Angeles as stayed with friends in Northridge. They were most hospitable … actually it was my first opportunity to experience genuine American hospitality as I’ve always stayed in paid accommodation like hotels or guesthouses. Funny ... I was in the other City of Angels (Bangkok, properly known as Krungthep Mahanakorn which means City of Angels) only a week ago!

I went to LA to see the swell season, and spent time wandering around Hollywood and Venice Beach.

There’s a small awards ceremony every January in El Lay, where the best photos of the year are honored. I am always required to attend--at least they pay for the rented tux--but I always manage to sneak out after a while, and usually end up going somewhere else for the rest of the night. . . in the tuxedo. Well I think America in general has more of the man made attractions rather than the natural ones. I went to Universal Studios while in LA, California. It had some cool rides and some cool shows. From that you can see that movies are COMPLETELY fake. What you see on the screen is not really happening at all. They showed us a flood and rain, trains crashing and bombs exploding. We were in California March 2006, with a short trip to Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Had a wonderful time. I just love California. Been there several times.

Brief sojourn in Paris, followed by a trip around southern Spain. Finished off with a visit to family in Norfolk and Guernsey.

I always seem to leave the packing to the very last night before a big trip. My destination: China. I set my expectations low as I did not know what to expect at all. I had an epiphany: Singapore is exactly on the other side of the world from Orlando. When I fly from Los Angeles to Singapore, I will fly so far west that I will cross the international date line and be in tomorrow. My sister was DONE (overdone) with living in El Paso, Texas! She invited me to fly down from Portland, pack up the Ford Focus with some light boxes, the two of us, two kids, and "Bunny" the hampster. We left El Paso, and set out across the southern deserts of New Mexico, Arizona, and California on I-10. Then, headed north on I-5 through California's Central Valley, the southern Oregon Siskiyous, and the Willamette Valley to Portland. (Tracie and the kids continued on to settle in Seattle.)

It is me with some friends again with this student exchange porgram called Work and Travel, but this time we are in one of the most beautiful places on Earth called Alaska. I was in a fish plant so be careful if it gets too dirty. After 2 months of work we decide to take a road trip starting from Seattle to Los Angeles...
