Los Angeles Union Station Reviews
Los Angeles' Grand Railway Terminal Oct 25, 2010
Los Angeles Union Station is the primary intercity and commuter railway station for the greater Los Angeles area. Opened in 1939, Union Station is a blend of Mission Revival and Art Deco elements. The spacious wooden-ceiling waiting room with its Spanish-style chandeliers is a sight to see in itself. The original ticket counter area is now used as a movie backdrop and can be seen in many films set in the 1930s and 1940s. (I once saw a 1940s-era movie being filmed here. It was like looking through a time portal.)
Both Amtrak and Metrolink trains serve the station. Amtrak long-distance trains run from Union Station to San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and New Orleans. Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner service offers frequent trains to San Diego, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. There is also dedicated motorcoach connection to the San Joaquin Valley Amtrak trains at Bakersfield. Metrolink is the regional commuter train service. Trains operate from platforms on a single level.
Metro Gold Line and Red Line rapid transit trains serve Union Station directly. Union Station is also the downtown stop for LAX FlyAway buses to and from the airport.
