Bandelier offered a place to connect with the historic past of  New Mexico as this land was inhabited by the Anazasi  Indians around the12 th century. The peoples that called the Frijoles Canyon home lived a life I only can imagine...the canyon offered protection from the elements (relatively), a safe vantage point, fertile grounds as a small river ran through the area, and many animals to hunt... to be honest with you..
