Lorton Vacation Guide
Lorton is a suburban community in Fairfax County, VA, near Washington, DC. Located in a rapidly developing Northern Virignia county, Lorton was still quite rural until a few years ago. It was then most famous for the federal Lorton Prison! The prison is now closed and the land is being redeveloped into suburban housing, parkland, and a golf course. A new secondary school has opened. There is discussion of establishing a Cold War Museum at a former Nike Missile compound.
