Longyearbyen - Svalbard Airport
Longyearbyen - Svalbard Airport Reviews
Longyearbyen - Svalbard Airport Sep 05, 2009
Airport: Svalbard Airport, Longyearbyen (LYR)
Location: 3km North West of Longyearbyen. How to get to nearest town: There are buses which connect with airlines departures and arrivals and drop off passengers at all the hotels in Longyearbyen. What is the terminal like? Nice and modern. It’s a really small terminal with three check in desks. Security is small and so is the departure area. The airport has space for 2-3 planes at the same time (but being the most north airport on the world and far up in the arctic, why would you need more than 2 services a day?) Staff: Very friendly. Not so strict compared to the staff at airports in mainland Norway. Shops and Restaurants: In the check-in area and arrivals hall (its in the same hall) there is no shops or restaurants but in the airside, there is a combined shop which also sells light refreshments and hot drinks. A bit expensive mind you. Main airlines departing out of the airport: SAS and Norwegian. That is it. Also a monthly charter service to Russia, (somewhere, its for the local residents who live in Barentsburg, a small Russian settlement not to far away from the airport). Rating: 8/10 |

Svalbard was my dream destination since I came to Norway 12 years ago. Finally I decided to visit it on my last year. I knew if I don't do it before I leave to Slovakia, it would be hard to come back. Travelling up there is not the cheapest thing...…… Part 3, Svalbard |
