Made a road trip to sunny Southern California for 2 weeks. Visits with girlfriends at the beach & time with the parents. The grand finale for the trip is the all day concert "Hootenanny"!!! Sadly, a summer bug has put off the concert :0(

So far this is the most "exotic" trip I have ever been on. That is to say, it is the farthest west; it is the most "event-filled"; it is the most memorable time I have ever had on a trip anywhere. Growing up we travelled a lot, but it is hard to remember details about that as an adult. I guess I could call this the only trip "exotic" trip of my adult life. So far.
My original reason for visiting California had to do with the USITT conference that was held at Long Beach. My brother and his fa...

I took a cruise with my company. It was a memorable experience. We left from Long Beach, CA and made stops at Catalina Island & Ensenada, Mexico.

Stayed in Long Beach for another ship visit but had a few days to check the pace out. Lovely harbour and steak houses, just make sure you tip the waiters or they go totally nuts with you (speaking from experience) ha ha

I went to this aquarium twice. I like it a lot. It's small, not the best. It is family and children oriented. Most of school children visit the aquarium from 11-2. But afterward, the aquarium is a nice little escape, just to hang around and do nothing!!!

For some background, let me explain to you this journey. In December, I realized that in 2008 both of my parents would be turning 60 - that's 120 years of celebrations and milestones between them. I thought, "How do you honor 120 years?" I first thought, "Raging party!" but decided against it since I would probably end up drinking all the alcohol. Then, I thought "Send them on a trip!" but that didn't seem possible with my dad's mobility issues. Then I said, "Let my sister figure it out!...

we've decided that long beach airport is officially the smallest airport ever! really it's like the size of a bus terminal! but it was great because that also meant no hassle - no lines, not crowded, easy check in, and i don't even remember if there was security!
blake's pop dropped us off, while jeremy brought monique to see her off at the airport; we said our goodbyes, hopped on the plane, and tuckered in for our red eye to new york.
standing in times square when the ball dro...

The city of Long Beach came alive for this weekend festival. The place was filled with bikers from across the globe competing in the Tour of California. It was really exciting to watch the racers as they wizzzed by at 30mph on their bikes and to see them push themselves to the limit. Their endurance is outstanding, to be able to ride at that pace for over 30 minutes...amazing!

My girlfriend and I spent a week with my uncle in Pasadena, California. We spent a few days seeing the sites in the L.A. area before heading out to Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea.
