Long Beach Bar Lighthouse Orient Point Reviews
Long Beach Bar Lighthouse Jul 22, 2008
On the way to orient point lighthouse, i noticed to my right a light way out in the harbor, i pulled over to read the plaque and got in a few pictures. now this light was very far out even with my zoom lens i had to use a few pics from the lighthouses main page for an example of what the light looks like close up.
now this light house was 1st contructed in 1870 and was 1st lit in 1871. immagine a victorian house with a tower and you've got a vision of a "bug" lighthouse, named so that because at high tide the origianal lighthouse looked like a giant water bug. sadly the original structure was destroyed by arsinists in 1963. The reconstructed lighthouse has been designatedas a federal aid to navigation and it was completed in 60 days.
the 250 mm solar powered light, 63 feet above the water, still aids mariners today.
