Long Bar Singapore Reviews
The origins of the Singapore Sling Mar 18, 2012
The Long Bar is situated at the iconic Raffles Hotel.
The bar has 2 levels, you can go up the spiral step for more comfortable seats and watch the band perform in the evenings. The decor was maintained from during the British colonial times.
You will be served a basket of peanuts at your table after you ordered your drink. The unique thing about this bar is that, you can throw your peanut shells everywhere and they are serious about it. As you walk up the steps at the bar you would have already seen peanut shells all over the floor! This is keeping up with tradition as per the yesteryears when the British would come here for a drink, eat peanuts and throw it all over the floor. Imagine this is Singapore (clean and green, you will get fined elsewhere but not at this bar!)
This bar is famous for the Singapore Sling. Every country has its national or iconic drink. Cuba has her mojito, Brazil has her caipirinha so Singapore has her Singapore Sling.
This cocktail originated from this very same bar back in 1915 by a local bartender. The main ingredients are gin, cherry brandy with pineapple juice. Many variations of the drink has since been made up to today.
So while hosting some visitors here, we brought them to Long Bar to taste the authentic Singapore Sling. And after many tries at various places, its is safe to say that no bar does the Singapore Sling better than the Long Bar.
The crowd here is usually tourists (mostly those retiree kind, I think its because they would be able to afford to stay here at the hotel) with some locals.
I am sorry I did not keep a copy of the pictures (they are usually taken by the visitors lol!) while I was here which is why I have added the website so you can check it out for yourself.
