Lonely Beach, Ko Chang, Thailand Travel Reviews

Jul 29, 2007
Whether you are touring Thailand, doing a 'visa run' to Cambodia, or traveling through to Cambodia and Vietnam, Ko Chang is well worth spending some time. And Lonely Beach is THE party beach!

Pick-up truck taxis meet every boat. It costs 80 Baht to Lonely Beach. Enroute you'll pass through White Sand and other beach areas, so you'll get a nice overview of the island. Later on you can rent a motorbike by the hour, half-day, or day, and explore those places and many others like the waterfalls or Bang Bao, the 'floating' village.

Rates go up December 1st when the official 'season' begins, so try to arrive just before and save a few dollars. Otherwise, its still a bargain … much cheaper than the southern islands.

Mid- DEC to early FEB most of the places are filled up by nightfall. Its no fun arriving somewhere new at night and having to hunt for a place to stay. Spend a night in Trat (check out the market) and get a morning or mid-day boat to the island, it'll still be there, and vacancies are always available then.

If you do arrive at night tell the taxi 'Tree House, Lonely Beach'. At your drop-off, walk about 50 meters down the gravel road toward the beach. Where it forks you will see a small open air bar with a statue of a Leopard with a sword in its mouth. Lamam or any of his staff working will inform you of any nearby vacancies.

If you rent a motorbike remember Thailand drives on the LEFT side of the road! Many accidents with foreigners. It is NOT recommended to ride one at night as there are occasional bandits. If you must ride at night wait for (and follow closely) another vehicle.

Tree House, Nature Rocks, and Siam Huts have excellent meals and sunset barbeques (not really a fish eater, the barracuda is converting me!)

Bring a flashlight. Lighting is poor and the winding path very rocky between the beach and the town.

From Tree House, be sure to walk the trail to Sunset Bungalows and on to the Paradise!

Every night there is a party going on at one of the beach places or in the 'town' up on the road.

However long you plan to stay…double it because you will not want to leave!

I hope this helps some one. Happy trails and I hope to see you there! Dan

wow dan! i love what you all had to say about koh chang! bonnie and i couldn't help ourselves---we came back to lonely beach---like yourself, we just fell in love with the place. and again we had to tear ourselves away from it this morning as we have to fly back to canada today. :-( had an awesome last few days there, really good sunset party and nature rocks party with an extra big fireshow! it was a blast! the boys that work at Sunset brought us out one day in their fishing boat to explore the islands and snorkel and do some fishing. was a great experience! did you ever do some night swimming on lonely beach? its amazing how the water glows green and sparkly from all the plankton! we hope you are having a great time in cambodia! CHEERS!
