London day walking tour
London day walking tour Reviews
Major attractions of London Jul 06, 2014
Take on the local surroundings by walking around London. You can choose how long you take and whether or not to enter any of the famous sights that you come across.
You can start anywhere in London, but I would recommend catching the tube to Victoria station and beginning from there.
Head eastward on Victoria st. Approx 300 metres you'll come across Westminster Cathedral on the left. Don't confuse it with Westminster Abbey, it's an old establishment and well worth seeing for the history. Continue down Victoria st and enjoy the views as you get closer to Westminster Abbey. You'll see the famous London Eye and good old Big Ben. Take some photos.
Westminster Abbey has an entrance fee which is approx £22 per adult. As you leave the Abbey, take in the scenery of Parliament and head North on Parliament st. Watch out to the left as you will spot Churchill in Parliament Square opposite Big Ben on your right. Take a right and walk down to Westminster bridge to take some nice photos of the River Thames, London Eye, Big Ben, Parliament, South bank.
Head back to Parliament st and continue North. Cross to the left side of the road. You'll see a sign that points towards the Churchill War Rooms. Well worth a visit here but be prepared to spend at least 2 hours touring this historic establishment. About 300 metres north again you'll come across 10 Downing Street where the British PM hangs out.
As you head north you'll hit Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery which has free entry. You'll enjoy the entertainment from buskers here and people watching is always interesting.
Find The Mall and follow this road towards Buckingham Palace. Enjoy the sights along the way as you venture alongside the beautiful gardens. There are tours of the palace in the Summer and regular times for viewing the changing of the guard. Be sure to check the website for dates and times.
Make your way through Green Park and catch the Tube back to where you are staying or as a suggestion, continue your adventure onto Leister Square or Convert Garden.
Be prepared for sore feet, so take your time and stop for breaks along the way.
