London accomodation is expensive. 'Cheap' hotels are in the 50-100 pound range, which, particularly with the dollar exchange rate, isn't likely to be considered cheap in many other places.

In terms of hotels, the Comfort Inn Notting Hill is the best deal I've found (see www.lth-hotels.com) and its a brilliant location (literally a few yards from the London underground station). However, you'll be lucky getting any change from 1,000 dollars for a week's stay.

Hostels are cheaper, but don't know enough about them to recommend (they should be listed on expedia.com). Even then you're going to be paying 25-50 pounds (or roughly 50-100 USD per night at the moment).

I liked the Reem Hotel in Bayswater for affordable accomodations and they also have a free breakfast. It is not far from the Bayswater tube station and Whiteley's shopping center

rub a lamp. for convenience go with The Generator. It is low rent, but cheap and well located. and the bar is a good place for cheap pool and cheap drinks.

ANd walking distance to the National Museum.

You can get oyster card for free now @
www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tickets/oysteronline/freeoyster/
When you have booked your hotel just get it send to their address (most of the hotels store the mail for their customers).
