Loleta Bakery ..... Small Town Delight Feb 20, 2012
David and I passed through Loleta to drop of 35 goats to graze down an area for the US Forest Service. We drove back through Loleta and looked for the bakery as we had been told it was great.

We located it easily and they put two tables together for David, his mom, Erin our daughter and myself. The tables were so darling: they were decorated with travel stickers. Also, there were some that had a checkers board on them. It was just a few weeks before Christmas and they had cute decorations up that were downplayed and old fashioned looking. The different pastries in the display case were on old fashioned dishes and none matched. Somehow that was right and it looked really quaint.

We got coffee and were thrilled at the quality it was. David and I got the Chicken Potpie "like mom used to make" at $10.00. It came with a large salad. Erin got an Italian Salami with balsamic vinegar, asiago, fresh mozzarella with arugula. Helen got a half of a turkey sandwich with tomato bisque soup. We ordered and sat enjoying the atmosphere. It was an old fashioned looking bakery with loaves of bread stacked.

Their bread menu was amazing. Ryes, nut breads, Sourdoughs, Different regional breads and some special Humboldt County specials. We really loved picking out some loaves for dinner that night. We wound up with four: a ridiculous amount but we couldn't resist the variety offered.

We all loved the food. It was cheerfully served and nicely presented. It was beyond our expectations and really delicious. We sat for an hour or so eating and chatting. When we left there was a brown 3 legged dog who apparently belonged to one of the little shops. Erin scratched it quite a while. It was a happy little thing. It turned down scraps from a couple of outside diners so apparently he was well fed.

Over all we would rate this place very high! It's really classy yet low key. We were there in goat clothes and boots and saw people who were dressed up ordering. Everyone was given quick and friendly service. Quite a bit of their business (like all bakeries) was ordering breads and desserts and taking them out. We even saw our veterinarian coming in as we were leaving! Small world!
