Loki del Mar – Mancora Jul 08, 2016
Full of crickets. It must have been some kind of season for crickets and I was even thinking of preparing a nice meal, Mexican Style crickets… but there was so much great sea food around that I forfeited that idea. The door had a little space between floor and the door and this buggers were getting in the room and making all night part with cricking and jumping on sleeping people. After the first night we solved the issue with towel strategically positioned under the door. I don’t think that other floors had similar problem, but my dorm room was on the bottom floor.

Loki Mancora is still the legendary place and one of the best hostels in the world. This year I did go to four Loki's around South America and I was extremly happy with most of them. Last time I was here (few years ago) I had a great time so that memory of very relaxing place made me stop by again and enjoy the sun and the beach before going further north towards Ecuador. Hostel did not change at all. They still have parties every day and they change depending of the world festival, game, or anything that can be made into party. Surprisingly enough everything calms down around midnight so you can sleep and relax without noise. Pool is very regulated and you can’t jump in after 8pm which is logical considering drunken people. Bar is picturesque and they make very good cocktails. That’s also the place where you can order your breakfast or any other meal. Kitchen works constantly and ladies make excellent food. There is always coffee and hot water available, and the also have cans of this sweet milk concentrate that makes caffee con leche just right.

Rooms are perfect, beds and lockers with separate restroom and shower in the room. That is really rare and they did excellent job in making custom hostel building. Cleanliness is on high level and workers are happy and smiley. Hot water is constant and steady, which is a great feat in such remote place in Peru, in a hostel with at least 150 beds… Loki is surrounded with good and constant security and there are only two entrances, one from the road and one to the beach. They do offer different water activities such a diving and surfing. Things that are not for me anymore is that crowd is very young, consisting of mostly North Americans and Israelis which leads to almost fraternity drinking party and lots of wannabe macho boys. Girls match the boys this place probably seen me for the last time. Aside of that, it is FANTASTIC hostel with the great management and fantastic service.

Mancora beach is supposed to be very good for surfing. It is also very long and deserted sand beach. Further away from the town you’ll be the only person (aside of some fisherman) that comes to the beach. Carcasses of the fish or seals are fairly common but that is the part of nature. The beautiful covery shells can be found during the high tide and really unique pink marble stones are all around. Beach is relatively safe to walk around but there were some reports of robberies.

Five hostel stars ! Jun 26, 2011
“Hostel Resort” is something that I would laugh about if someone told me the story, but Loki del Mar is living and breathing example of hostel perfection. Classic example of party hostel is priced 28 soles for dorm, which is a bit high for the area, but more than affordable for treatment that you get. Most of other hostels in the area are priced from 15-30 soles and all are located close to each other so you can easily choose your favorite.

First thing that confused me a bit was big wooden gate that looks like serious hotel or a mansion door, and I entered only because there was big LOKI written on next to it. Nice garden leads you to reception area that is made perfectly for backpackers with large bamboo chairs, and huge room for luggage. Very helpful stuff handles everything professionally, which is more than needed for place that probably fits probably around 150 people.

Next to the reception there is TV room where you can also play any kind of video games, watch movies or most of cable programs. Lots of sofas and chairs make sure that everyone can enjoy it. Outside area with bunch of desktops ensures that people without computer can access their Facebooks and tell friends where they are. And now… few steps lead you to platform where most of the people spend their day enjoying large pool, bar or just enjoying the sun on many pool chairs.

Purposely built hostel is something that real travelers must respect because it has all the small and important things that are important for us. Dorms have six beds and each bed has concrete locker. Mattresses are placed on solid concrete base, which everyone that ever slept on top bunk bed can appreciate. It means that there is no movement of the bed, it is as solid as possible, so everyone can enjoy sleeping. Every dorm room has its bathroom and restroom in separate areas, and fan that ensures air movement. Dorms are on the bottom floors, and there is total of three floors, with very nice private apartments occupying top floor and costing around 45 soles per person (I am not sure how many people can fit there, but probably two).

Breakfast is included in price, and it is in form of bread, butter and lots of jam, coffee and tea included too. If you do not like that kind of breakfast, you can order fairly priced breakfast or any other meal from hostel’s restaurant. Portions are big and food is good. Bar has few guys that are very good in making cocktails and fast in beer opening game… WiFi internet is strongest around the bar area, so most of the people hang around there at large wooden tables.

Not to forget, beach is 30 meters away from hostels wall. Doors close a bit early and guys do not open them early in the morning, so you have to go around the block and knock on the main gate, but that just means that security is good. Between beach and hostel there is row of barracks restaurants and alley is a bit dark, smelly and filthy, but it is the shortest way to jump in the clean Pacific waters. Hostel is right in the front of the area where all surfers hang around, and waves are pretty good

Local fisherman use rafts made of logs tighten together in bundle that floats, and improved ones even host a triangular sail. Every morning you can see them pulling out their nets and catch. Night life revolves around surfers and easy going backpackers, and you can enjoy it every night until early mornings.

I warmly recommend this hostel as MUST GO at least once in life time

Beautiful Jun 03, 2010
I want to start off by saying that when you stay at Loki del Mar you are not staying at a hostel, but a resort. There´s a pool, a bar right next to it, chairs by the pool, beach access, everything you could possibly want at about 8 dollars a night.

Anyone who has been to a Loki Hostel knows that there is no such thing as quite hours at night, so if you want a nice sleep, go somewhere else.

Most of the staff are travelers, or are english, so the langauge barrier is non existent. They are super helpful and friendly and very accomodating, at least within their limits.

The bech is right there, but its right there for many of the hotels and hostels in Mancora.

I love my stay here though, and I totally get how some people get stuck there for months. I was only there for two days, and didn´t want to leave. I had to be dragged away by my travel partner.
