Best Hostel In Reykjavik Apr 06, 2017
Be warned- Iceland is an expensive country, so the hostel was expensive as far as hostels go, but cheap for Iceland. However, I feel this hostel was fantastic value for money.

I personally booked an 8 bed mixed dorm for 1 week. However there are 6 bed dorms and privates also, and you can opt for female only dorms. The 8 bed dorm had typical bunk beds, linen provided, lockers under every bed and a personal light & small shelving space with electric socket. En-suite shower and toilet (which were separate, I found this brilliant as you could still pee even if someone was taking forever in the shower) though each dorm varies. The rooms all had a swap box with any toiletries left from previous travelers so if you forgot anything you could always have a look in there!! Same on all of the floors, there was a shelving unit where you could leave anything you no longer needed (usually books, gloves, travel adaptors etc) The rooms were cleaned every day by the most wonderful friendly and attentive staff!!

The hostel has awards for being one of the greenest in Iceland- and it really is!!

The kitchen had everything you could need, hob, fridges, microwave, hot water, dishwasher, all your plates/cutlery/cooking equipment provided free of charge. And so much free food (left from other travelers) that I needn't have done any shopping!

There is a bar/cafe in the main communal area which is open to the public. I never found this an issue as it was nice to meet some locals- everyone in Iceland was extremely friendly. The kitchen and dorm areas were strictly guests only so if you didn't want to interact with locals there was that option. The main reception is also in this area and the staff there were brilliant. You could even book any excursions/airport transfers with them with no hassle.

The wifi was excellent. Fast, and 24 hours. Pretty much everywhere in Iceland has free, fast wifi to be honest.

The hostel does not have a curfew however if you are coming back after midnight your key to the main door will not work, you have to buzz the main reception and give them your room number- not an issue. And they kindly request you keep the noise down after 11. All public areas are closed at that time.

The hostel is right in the centre of Reykjavik, which some people found to be an issue with noise (the weekends in Reykjavik are crazy and there is a nightclub 2 doors down from the hostel) however personally I didn't have an issue with noise and slept peacefully every night I was there. Otherwise the central location was perfect, plenty of shops, sights, food/drink places around so nothing was an issue to get to.

Overrall I loved this hostel!! Would recommend it highly to anyone and everyone

Popular place in the center of everything Aug 07, 2015
This hostel is located right on Reykjavik's main shopping street. It is in the middle of bars, resturants, stores, and other hostels. It is also quite close to the ocean. This hostel was the first I stayed at and it has given me high expectations for others. The reception, bar, and lounge are at the top of the building with the rooms on floor below. I thought because of this that there would be lots of noise from the bar or other rooms. However, I did not hear a thing. The beds were comfortable, sheets provided. The rooms were cozy and modern. There was a bathroom in the room (slept 4) with a glass shower. No towel provided so the floor gets wet after the shower, but nothing horrid. Lighting is also nice, however, it's on a timer so if you take a long shower you will wind up in darkness waving your hands about trying to reactivate the motion sensor.

The staff were very friendly and willing to give you advice on the best tours and bars to visit. They are always smiling and are very welcoming. It's no big deal if you check out a quarter an hour past check out time.

The price was high for a hostel, but everything in Iceland is expensive. I was able to find a cheaper hostel for the following nights and decided to move there.

Overall I was very happy with the hostel. I met some great people there and appreciated the convienent location.
