Gorgeous islands! Jun 24, 1997
Lofoten are amazing and storybook-like islands in the North Atlantic that offer stunning impressions, unique views and unforgettable travel experiences.

If you come to these islands you feel the original atmosphere of ancient and traditional Norwegian life.

A fascinating landscape including high mountains, sharp rocks and green hills, little and narrow villages with those typical red wooden houses that are built on piles above the salty water and local codfish industry are just a few of many interesting facets to discover.

Lofoten are the ideal place to leave all the daily stress behind and dip into a pool of majestic surroundings combined with the friendliness of local fishermen and relaxing village life.

As a stranger you easily get the feeling of staying in a different but very charming world. You’re able to drive along the coast and visit countless of neat villages that you can reach thanks to the modern Lofoten Road that also connects three of the main islands with each other.

Especially outdoor activities like cycling, mountaineering, rock climbing, fishing, watching sea birds and experiencing National Park atmosphere have priority among many tourists, which means the islands are the perfect destination for every nature lover.

All in all a trip to Lofoten is definitely a different but absolutely fabulous way of island hopping – just try it out!
I can really recommend a trip to this idyllic range and don’t forget your camera because one awesome view is followed by another astonishing silhouette!

I've been to the Lofoten in 2004. Although the weather was very bad I had a great time. I even saw the midnight sun which was very special.

The most stunning place of all was the Lofoten Islands all the way up North of the Arctic Polar Circle and of Bodo.   That’s where I saw my first aurora borealis while staying in the Youth Hostel in Stamsund. What a show! When it took place all the hostel guests… Norway
