Loch Raven Reservoir
Loch Raven Reservoir Reviews
Watershed Park with hiking, boating, fishing, and relaxing! Jun 28, 2009
Loch Raven Reservoir has always been close to my heart. I remember as a little girl my Dad would take my sister and I over there to hike through the woods or toss a frisbee around on the shore. There are more than 20 miles of hiking trails and fire roads as well as a 3 mile stretch of Loch Raven Drive that is closed on the weekends to anything other than foot traffic! There is a boating center where you can rent canoes or small motor boats for fishing and recreation. The overall watershed is 218 sq miles...plenty of room for paddling!
When I was in high school I used to hike with my friends to a set of cliffs where we would jump and swim all day long...at least until the park police would kick us out. Swimming is NOT allowed in the Reservoir. On Loch Raven Drive there are great grassy areas along the shore perfect for picnicking and hanging out with friends or family. The park is safe, but not lit at night...I believe it closes after dark. Enjoy! |
