I think most of us here go to places to enjoy the local culture. Sometimes finding the "local" culture is easier said than done. The Honolulu Advertiser is the local daily paper here in Honolulu and they take pride in advertising a local venue calender. This calender can be found on their website under Island Life and then TGI Calender. Here you will find lists of all the local performances that are occurring on the island for that day. All the listings show the cost of the event as well as the venue. A special print edition comes with the paper every Friday and lists all the local concerts, etc. that are taking place for the entire weekend. This is a great way to find things that are of specific interest to you that the hotel service may not necessarily know about.

You can follow this website and it should take you to the daily calender

Or you can visit this website and find the calender from the homepage. http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage

Anyway, I hope this helps you find interesting local things to do while you are here on Oahu.

Our local newspaper here in Ciudad Juarez does the same thing, I've always thought it is a great idea.
