Lligwy Moelfre Reviews
Three in one! Jul 23, 2010
Although a highly recommended free area that has three attractions should attract you, it is unlikely that you will go to Anglessey just for this - but if you do go, please regard it as a must-see if you have any interest in history or archaeology.
Three in one? Yes, there are three separate attractions in the very small area of Lligwy They are separated more by history than by location.
1. Din Llygwy - this is a pre-historic burial chamber. The huge capstone has marks where the ropes ran to haul it up.
2. Roman Britain - a third century CE settlement with the foundations of rectangular and round houses.
3. Chapel of Ease - Hen Capel Lligwy - a bit of a mystery what this chapel was doing so far from any known village but, sanding on its own in a field, with a great view out to sea, it's very evocative and it has an unusual crypt, possibly a burial vault. Now roofless and with only part of its walls - and the crypt.
