What trip through the United Kingdom would be complete without a quick visit to a little town in Wales that goes by the name of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. This small village of about 3,000 was a photo stop for our tour. I’m sure they chose this it because it is one of the longest single word names for a town. It certainly is not an easy one to pronounce. The translation from Welch is “The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the fierce whirlpool and the church of St. Tysilio’s of the red cave.” Naturally, there are souvenirs and tourist items for purchase, but most abbreviate the name. :)
