Livingston Overview

I have just returned from a six day stay in Livingston. I did some work at Ak'Tenamit a boarding high school for Maya and Garifuna kids just up the Rio Dulce. It is a terrific program. You must visit and the students will welcome you with open arms. http://aktenamit.org/ Eat at Buga Mama, the student run restaurant in Livingston. The nicest hotel is the Villa Caribe, with a beautiful pool, air conditioned rooms, wifi and hot water. Dugu Bar just outside hotel entrance has live music About $100 per night and well worth it. Manfred the manager can arrange excursions, boats, and other needs. Livingston has a mix of Maya, Garifuna and Ladino residents that is unique to Guatemala. Can only be reached by boat from Puerto Barrios or Rio Dulce Guatemala or from Punta Gorda, Belize.
