Alligator Pond, Jamaica
Little Ochi Alligator Pond Reviews
The coolest place in Jamaica May 04, 2011
The Little Ochi restaurant and bar is a fabulous place that will make the long road worthwhile, because it is a fair ride to get there.
As soon as you arrive you will be taken by the great music pounding out from the huge speakers standing on the beach spreading Jamaican joy all over the whole area. The DJ is standing next to them and mixes great music the entire day.
The beach is full of fishing boats and there are many people coming up to the restaurant to sell their catch. So even if you arrive early there is a lot to do, even a walk on the beach is attractive.
The main restaurant building serves mainly as a bar and an open kitchen where you pick your order from huge fridges where the fresh fish and seafood are stored. There are always someone attending the fridges.
I went for the butterfly shrimps where I chose a good pound. After that I talked to the guy in front of the kitchen; here you say how you want them done. Then you get a paper that you have to hand bin to the woman sitting in the booth in the middle of the large room. It took a while to figure out.
You have a great opportunity to look in to the kitchen and see how they cook the food. There is a lot of smoke and it looks hot to work there.
I was there quiet early the first time for lunch and I was able to choose any of the many huts they have on the beach. Some of the huts are boats on stilts and all are painted in fresh green, blue, yellow and red; it is a blast to look at because they all have palm leaf roofs.
The food itself was fabulous too; it was a true pleasure to visit this little wonder in Alligator Pond.
I was back 3 hours later and the place was then packed! It was a blast that too.
