Beautiful View of the Mountain and Tea factory May 29, 2013
If you are visiting Haputale, I guest Lipton's seat is a must see attraction as the view from the top of the hill is beautiful.

You can take public bus from Haputale city centre which cost 25 Sri Lanka money (I think) or you can hire taxi if you are lazy to walk like me, as to go to the top of the hill, you still need to walk 4km from the bus stop.

I don't remember how much does it cost to hire a taxi, but it is very cheap and I get it from the hotel where I stay. The trip takes around one hour or less to go up to the top of the hill. It's slow ride as the road is quite small and narrow, but beautiful view toward tea plantation and mountain. The weather is a bit chilly, so need to bring jacket or jumper.

Before reach the top of the hill, there is one gate and you have to pay entrance fee, don't remember how much but it's very cheap.

Once at the top, there is one small local eatery which sell drink and snack and I order samosa and it comes up with different snack as well. Taste was good and warm especially at the cool weather. But the samosa is quite spicy. Really enjoy my stay there.

Amazing views from Lipton Seat Tea Factory Dec 01, 2012
This is actuakly in Haputale but a good daytrip to do frim ella do leave in the morning before the mist settles for the day. Travel through the Dambatenna tea plantation where you will see lady Tamil tea pickers hard at work and men are just standing around ready to do the weighing. There appeared to be a few crosses scattered here and there which made me wonder if some of the workers had fallen to their death. Lipton seat was the favourite look out of Sir Thomas Lipton who created the Lipton tea brand and is the highest point.

The views are breathtaking so be sure ti take your camera alao enough change money to enjoy a cup of tea and sone shorties.

I did the trip on a scooter which made it quite adventurous there is a small toll on the road and near the top we had to walk the last bit as the road was quite bad.

360 degree view ! Dec 28, 2012
Located in a turnoff from Haputale* (*situated on the colombo - badulla main road), this view point of the yesteryear still holds its place as a #1 location to get a naked eye view of a large area of Sri Lanka. On a clear day , you will be lucky enough to see from the east coast to the southerncoast of Sri Lanka. Its strategic location and height which provides an un obstructed view from other mountains places liptons seat as a travelers MUST GO location when exploring the hills of Sri Lanka. If you are using public transport you could reach above 5 km short of the peak and treak rest of the way, trekking paths are available right to the top OR you could use a tuk tuk from haputale at negotiated rates to reach the top and back. If there is mist in haputle be sure to avoid going up because its a no view point if this is the case. Day time is the best to be here but be sure to have your weather forcasts at hand before doing the 15 kms turnoff from haputale . Luck plays a major role in this location as the mist "Comes & Goes " in a matter of minutes
The sign which says it all!

The Lipton Tea factory and surrounding paradise.... Aug 24, 2011
In the heart of the Sri Lankan Hill Country, near the town of Haputale. Surrounded by amazing views these lush green hills, covered in neat rows of tea bushes, are a sight to behold. Sir Thomas Lipton himself established this place as a tea growing center of the world in the late 1800's. Nearby is an awesome viewpoint called "Lipton's Seat" where he used to ride his horse up to the top of the hills and behold the amazing view across the country. You absolutely must get here early if you are to avoid the mist that will cloud over by mid morning. The factory itself is located in a valley below, in the same original building as during Sir Thomas Lipton's time, only the machines have been updated. It's well worth taking a tour of the place, to see the whole tea making process in action. And the smell inside is amazing, with all the fresh tea leaves overwhelming your senses.
