Lions Lair is Sheffield's premier "no attitude" bar for boys who like girls who like girls who like boys who like boys. Unfortunately as Sheffield has never been much of a modern outlook type of place it is also basically Sheffield's only "no attitude" bar.
It's a small place situated down a side street and in a previous incarnation used to be a hang out for greasy bikers and denim-clad metalheads. It couldn't be further from that now – chic, boutique style décor is the order of the day, with everything just on the right side of retro cheese to be tasteful.
It's not the biggest place in the world – if memory serves correctly there are only eight tables but that adds to the feeling of exclusivity. Out back there is a well designed decking covered courtyard which adds plenty more seating space for the summer months. They even pipe the music outside you don't need to miss any of the atmosphere.
There is only one small bar but they serve a decent selection of drinks (including Jagermeister – yay). This is the sort of place where you really need to be sipping a nice glass of white wine though and that arrives suitably served in an ice bucket.
A recent addition is a video jukebox which is crammed with more cheesy pop than you can shake a stick at but unfortunately was lacking in any Dolly Parton which was something of a shame we felt.
Basically this makes such a change from the beer, testosterone and slapper fuelled bars that make up the rest of the city centre it's like an island of style in a sea of sewage.
As Chic once sang: "Good times!"
