A mythical cave.. Apr 17, 2013
Of the many century old cave temples in Ipoh this one stands out to be the one associated with mythology and so is popular with both the Chinese Taoists and Buddhists.Just beside the Nam Thean Temple this cave temple attracts the eye with the many huge statues of deities.Once inside the cave you will see a large number of Buddhas statues in his various moods, underworld deities, heavenly deities, fairies, spirits, dragons and so on.The walls of the cave are covered with smoke stain and soot of joss sticks and incense.I being no Taoist or Buddhist I could not understand the deities but found one with a lot of books beside him and guessed him to be the one concerned with knowledge and learning. There happened to be many statues of men who wielded swords of various shapes and sporting different styles of beards and hairdos. Also prominent was the statue of Goddess or sage Kuan Yin or they said the mother of mercy. There was also a golden statue of a frog with a coin in its mouth and people just did pet it and rub the coin in its mouth for luck....Funny ...
