Linderhof Castle Reviews
May 20, 2005
Southern Germany has many wonderful Castles. This one, finished in 1878, although the smallest that Ludwig II built is by far the most ornate. It is only two stories and has actually you only get to see the areas that were for Ludwig. That means most of the downstairs, which were for staff, are not on the tour.
But what you do see if magnificent! The entry includes a wonderfully ornate gold ceiling. The other downstairs room you see if for three of the 95 vases that Ludwig II collected. The three are very large. Some of the ones upstairs are quite small. The staircases from this room to the upstairs are wide and very nice.
Upstairs are the huge ornate bedroom, the music room, the mirror room, and Ludwig's eating room. This room has a table that can be lowered straight down through the floor and filled with food before being raised back into place. That way Ludwig did not have to see his staff.
The gardens and fountains both in front, around the side, and behind the castle are large, and include several statues.
This is a very nice tour and cameras are allowed.
