Lindau (Bodensee) Overview

The island town of Lindau is in the southwestern tip of Bavaria in Germany. The town borders on the Bodensee (also known as Lake Constance. The Bodensee lies on the borders of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Lindau area is listed as historic monument because there are so many historical buidings there.

The town dates back to 882. On the South side of the town is the harbour which is where you will find the Magturm, a 13th century lighthouse. The seepromenade is where the newer lighthouse is located, Neuer Leuchtturm built in 1856. Across from the lighthouse is the marble Lion of Bavaria, which is the symbol of Lindau.

Sights of the city include the lighthouses, Town hall, Maximilianstrasse, Church of St. Peter, Protestant Church of St Stephen, The Catholic Church of St Mary, Diebsturm (Thief's Tower), Stadtmuseum (City Museum) and Marketplatz with nuptune fountain.

From the Seepromenade you can see both Austria and Switzerland. Lindau is worth a stop if you are in the area.

From the harbour you can take a trip over the Bodensee an stop at other places like Bregrenz in Austria or the tropical flowerisland of Mainau.

The centre of Lindau is almost totally carfree.
