In any case, you should be prepared for a cultureshock. I normally always have a cultureshock when I'm in a new country, but in Peru I only had it in Lima. Lima is a big city (as big as Belgium itself) and has very hectic traffic. Keep in mind that is a very touristic place in Peru. The city itself is ok. If you do make a trip to Peru, Lima and you will see other things, leave Lima for last. Lima has very attractive sights, like 'The kissing couple', 'The dungeon' in the cathedral or just drink something in the café where there is an incredible outview on the beach. People there are friendly and supportive. There are also a lot of shops to be seen. Although Lima is actually very different from the rest of the country, they don't serve there the typical food you would find in other places or they don't sell the same things, it's far more Europeanlike.

Peru is really good at the piracy thing. In big market places like Polves Azules and Polvos Rosados, there are all these little stands selling fake goods. According to my cousin, Peru is the only place where blockbuster went bankrupt. The DVDs could be as cheap… crazy. |
