We landed early in Nairobi, before sunrise, so it was not much to see. Only two hours to my next flight to Lilongwe, Malawi. As we went through the gate my seat was changed and this time NOT for the better. I was looking forward to my A seat, so I could get a good view of Mt Kilimanjaro. But that w…

In Malawi they call themselves as "the warm heart of Africa". I would say that this feeling is all around the country.
Malawi was the first part of our plan of visiting Africa. Mozambique would be the second one (I´ll create a new blog for it).
Lilongwe -the capital city-, Liwonde National Park, and Cape Maclear were the only three points in Malawi we could spend a few days in. 10 days in total, enough to have a taste of a beautiful country full of beautiful people.

Rick and I are leaving for South Africa June 13 from Vancouver and we will be on a Safari for the following 2 months. But first we are headed to Regina. This website has really cool maps and we can upload pictures (if we can find a computer). Hope you all found this okay.

During the summer of 2003 I went to Malawi, Africa for about a month. I spent most of my time working with Save Orphans Ministries (SOM)...tearing down old houses to reuse the bricks, helping out with VBS, and just getting to know the people there. At the end of the trip we had a couple days to relax (we got to go on a safari).

In a perfect world with no flight cancellations or delays, and where someone could hop from plane to plane within 15 minutes, how many countries can a person visit in the shortest possible time? Here's one possibility using July 2006 timetables.

Staying at Kande Beach Resort for 4 days, this was a welcome break from lots of travelling since Tanzania. Situated on the edge of the freshwater lake, there was plenty of swimming to be done inbetween lazing around in the hammocks tied between palm trees. A tough job, but someone's gotta do it!!

After that we drove back into Lilongwe to change money (28 Zambian kwacha for 1 Malawian kwacha) and buy praziquantel tablets to take in 6 weeks time to stop ou…

Malawi's capital makes me nervous at
night. It's deathly quiet, with nary a soul stirring on the street at
night. And this kinda freaks me out.
On the plus side there are some decent
bars and some good food. I've had a truly fabulous cheeseburger
(actually I've had it twice, including once f…

Wawa! Muli bwanji? Ndili bueno kay inu zikomo? Tionana! Basically… that is what HAS to be said about twenty odd times every five minutes walking through Malawi. The children can see you a mile away, shouting “N’sungu! N’sungu”, meaning “white person”, from far in the distance until yo…
