Genoa, Italy -› Monaco -› ...
Genoa is Italy's principal seaport and is located on the northwest coast of Italy in the region of Liguria, not far from the French border. Genoa has an excellent train system and can be reached from Milan, Turin, La Spezia, Pisa, Rome, Monte Carlo, Monaco and Nice, France. The two train stations, Principe and Brignole are both in central Genoa. Ferries leave Genoa's port for Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, and Elba. Genoa also has a small airport, Cristopher Colombus (Cristoforo …

Buona Epifania!
posted by:
Dec 25, 2005 - Jan 27, 2006
Today was a holiday in Italy called Epifania, celebrating when the three kings brought gifts for baby Jesus. This is the day when Italian children are given sweets in stockings - if they have been good - or a witch comes on her broomstick and places coal in the stocking if the child has been bad. I was delighted to receive a stocking of my own this morning from Chiara's parents, full of Gianduiotti, Torino's own chocolate. I spent the day in Genova with Chiara's friend, Vanessa. Lucki…

Love Liguria!

Verona, Italy -› Rome, Italy -› ...
I could already tell you that i love Italy but after this trip i can tell you that i really love Liguria! I think this region of Italy is really beautiful, maybe the most beautiful one of Italy. It's not full of tourists like Florence, Rome or Venice so we could truly enjoy the beautiful landscape and villages. We stayed in Rapallo, a village with about 50.000 inhabitants with a nice centre. There's a small beach for those who like to have a lazy day but we preferred to discover the surroundi…

The Cinque Terre
posted by:
Jul 04, 2007 - Aug 14, 2007
I am lost for words, and as you know that doesn't happen often. Today we decided to walk the Cinque Terre, what is the Cinque Terre I hear you ask? It is 12 kilometers of sheer rocky coastline in northern Italy, terraced hills and vineyards sloping steeply down to the sea. Five little villages are built into the rocks between the beach and the hills and these are referred to as the Cinque Terre. The day wasn't cool nor was I expecting such a hard walk (blissfully ignorant) but we decid…

The city of Genoa
posted by:
Jul 10, 2008 - Jul 27, 2008
On the 17th of July, we visited the city of Genoa. It was only about 25 minutes by car, so that was very relax. We left quite early in the morning so we had the whole day to spend in the city. You immediately see that Genoa is an authentic Italian city. Especially when you drive down the Autostrada and look around you will see a lot of typical Italian landscapes, houses and other buildings. The city centre itself has a population of 620.000 and the entire urban area has a population of about …

Smog
posted by:
Jul 27, 2008 - Sep 12, 2008
What to do, when you visiting a big (at least in our eyes) city. Go to the foreigner agency. This nice lady showed a route to walk. So we went with enthousiasm to the train. After arrival, we walked that route and enjoyed it. Nice buildings, interesting statues, busy streets. However, at some point I had a tast of smog in my mouth. At the waterfront the air pollution was less severe. We saw the expensive aquarium, but it is a must-see and worth every penny. After that, we still had the feelin…

I only made to Sanremo because it was less than an hour away from Nice and I was craving Pizza so I figured why not eat it in Italy. So I had some gelato while I was there. It was very tasty.

Riviera di Levante 2001: Genoa Travel Photos

I spent 2 weeks in Chiavari to study Italian. It is a lovely and very clean little town in Liguria. In the old part of town are many arcades where you can walk around and enjoy the small shops. Plenty of traditional Ligurian restaurants all around the town. I enjoyed my stay very much, did some trips to Sestri Levante & Genoa. Beautiful area! Portofino is around the corner! Big thank you to Anna & her family to make me feel like home! And my Italian - hmmm, well, we will not talk about it! ;-))

Genoa has a taste of spanish Valencia due its modern dock area. Someone told me there is nothing to see in Genoa beside the docks, but he was wrong. The only flaw I have found its Genoa´s hills. You will have to train your legs before going if your hotel it´s up there. And for those who love backpaper travelling, bad news: Genoa´s youth hostel is located at the top of one hill. Seriously, even taking the bus, you end exhausted! the good point is the incredible view of the city you have. …
