Lichtenvoorde Overview

Lichtenvoorde, located in the Dutch province of Gelderland, has been a settlement since the year 1277. In that year, the Lord of Borculo had the Castle of Lichtenvoorde built.

According to an official document, viceroy William V, an ancestor of the current Royal family of Holland. Until 1795 Lichtenvoorde remained a personal asset of the Royal family. After that, only the title ‘Lord of Lichtenvoorde’ was kept. Queen Beatrix, current queen of Holland, has an entire list of titles. One of those titles is ‘Lady of Lichtenvoorde’.

The old market of Lichtenvoorde has a 20,000 kilo boulder. This boulder was dragged here by 99 shoemakers to celebrate the 25th anniversary of King William III rule.
