Libreville is a city of approx. 1 million located in the western region of Gabon on the atlantic ocean. It contains the deepwater port of Owendo, adn the Komo river runs through the city to the ocean. Libreville is the capital of Gabon and contains the Embassies of nations that choose to maintain them. Libreville is also the location of the countries only international airport, which is located approx. 1okm north of the city. Libreville has long stretches of beach frequented by tourists during the season, as well as many hotels and restaurants.

The day started with an early morning forest wake-up call from chattering monkeys and singing birds high up above the camp in the forest canopy. The morning air was surprisingly cool - helped by the thick thatched roof of the log cabin. Mosquitoes are not a big problem in the forest, though there are plenty of other forest sounds to disturb sleep. A cold bucket of water from the stream brought me to life. On monday i got the first opportunity to get out and see Libreville. The city itself suffers from poor infrastructure except in the areas populated by expats. As is typical many places around the world, markets are immedeiately off the road, offering a wide variety of wares, and the guys who sell local phone cards do it in traffic. If you are not a very aggressive driver, I don't recommend driving in Libreville.
