Challenging but well worth a go Sep 03, 2010
Liathach in winter is one of the best known mountain photos from Scotland. This range is often associated with Aonoch Eagach and An Teallach in terms of grandeur and difficulty. I don't rate it quite at that level but it certainly comes close. It towers formidably over the village of Torridon. Somebody prophesied that if Liathach ever fell, Torridon would be destroyed - a prophecy that seems to me to require neither extra-sensory perception nor a degree in geology!

There is one fairly obvious route a few miles up the glen from Torridon. if you think it looks too hard, perhaps you should think again about going up at all. I don't know of an easier route. I thought the traverse was mostly less demanding than I expected but finding a good route down proved really difficult - in fact we didn't and the way we did get down was not to be recommended!

Even so it's a terrific mountain - or more properly mountain range with two Munroes.
