Lhardy Reviews
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mar 25, 2006One of the oldest restaurants in Madrid. Lhardy first opened its doors in 1839 as a gathering place for the city's artists and political leaders. Its snack bar still conserves the century old charm in Spain and is told to be the most elegant in Spain. Stand up service is offered among 19th century decor with marble, hardwood and traditional coffee and tea available free of charge. On second floor is located the restaurant itself. You will find a formal restaurant decorated in the Belle Epoque style of Isabel the Second and offers most local specialities including obviously pork. Lhardy is worth a visit just because of the beautiful decorations of its mirror laden second floor. It is a place with a charming atmosphere like few others. Not many of these traditional restaurants still remain in continental Europe and Lhardy is a great window into a past epoch.
