Level Bar and Lounge Washington Reviews
Good space for a small private party Oct 23, 2010
I went to a Brazilian party with forro lessons and lots of dancing at this place. As with many venues off of the U street corridor, Level Bar and Lounge was the second floor of a restaurant. It is a narrow space with a small stage (for a band and DJ) up in the front, a bar on the side up against the wall and 2 restrooms and a small private room in the back.
For the organization hosting the event, which turned out to be a pretty good fundraiser, it was an appropriate space. It got a little hot, we opened a window in October and it balanced everything out. I tried to ask the bartender what a regular Friday night was like there, but got a very vague answer. There was a live band for this particular event I attended, but a DJ can also easily fit up on the small stage area. When people are dancing, it's OK, but when they break out into samba, I was almost sure the floor was going to break.
If you are wandering around U street, I can't say that something will always be pumping here, but if you are looking for a venue for your own small event, this will probably do. The place is neat, the bathrooms are clean, and I was able to watch the Yankees lose their last game in the MLB playoffs on one of their several TVs (pouting).
As always, when in the U street area, parking can be kind of hard to find. Good luck.
