Leshan Vacation Guide

Leshan Giant Buddha is located in the joint of Mingjiang River, Qingyi River and and Dadu River in the east of Leshand City, the north side of which is more than 160 kms from the Sichuan provincial capital of Chengdu. The Giant Buddha is a Maitreya sitting statue chiselled into the cliff face by Xixia Peak of Lingyun Mountain.

It was firstly built in the first year of Kaiyuan Period in Tang Dynasty (713 AD), and the construction period lasted over ninety years. As the largest lapidarian Buddha (71 metres high)in the world, there is an interesting Chinese saying: "Mountain is a Buddha, while Buddha is a mountain".
