Lerida Estate Canberra Reviews
Don't whine about this wine Jun 02, 2011
For those not familiar with the Canberra region, Lerida is situated at the base of the escarpment of the Lake George Range that runs along the western side of Lake George. The Lake, when it has some water in it, is some 45km NE of Canberra and on the route of the Federal Highway, which goes to Goulburn and ultimately to Sydney.
Lake George (or Weerewaa in the indigenous language) is about 30 minutes drive north-east of Canberra along the Federal Highway en route to Sydney.
The Estate is conveniently located along the Federal Highway with some awesome views of the lake. This winery is the home of many award winning Pinots, Shiraz and Chardonnays. The winery also has a nice café that serves food at various times of the year including weekends. When we visited, there was no one else around which made our time with the owner/winemaker, Malcolm Burdett. We were stuck by his candor and enthusiasm for his wines. He took us on flight worthy to be called first class. The variety of wines was as vast as the flavors. I really enjoyed not only the wines, but the olive oils and gourmet food. The winery is also home to musical events, food and wine festivals, a walking track and Petanque; which is similar to Bacci.
This is a place that you should stop if not only to say. Take home some of the Pinot Gris which is really worth the $28 price tag
