Leonardo Hotel Frankfurt-City Frankfurt am Main Reviews
About as close to the train station as you can get but very noisy Dec 27, 2009
We only spent one night at Leonardo Hotel Frankfurt City Center but we had 2 rooms, one for us on the street side and one for the in-laws visiting for their 50th Wedding Anniversary on the interior side of the building. We liked that we were so close to the train station and there was an Irish Pub right next door (which unfortunately closed the kitchen for the night before we could eat there). The problem with our room was the noise--no soundproofing! The area around the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) used to be the red-light district but it has improved markedly in the past 15 years since we lived in Frankfurt.
Still, there are a few nude video stores/peep shows and shady characters around, to include a hooker/pimp fight we overheard at 0400L which was very disconcerting for us. Luckily, the in-laws were not affected since they had a quieter interior room. There was also noise from the streetcars passing right in front of the building.
The place has a garage for parking which was handy for our needs to park the rental car on our trip around central Germany. Just be careful as the street the hotel is on technically "ends" before the ring around the train station, only streetcars are allowed to continue through this intersection, so if you drive to this hotel, be sure to come at it going towards the main train station (Hauptbahnhof). Parking in the hotel garage can be difficult if the staff does not open the door properly or quickly when you pull up to it.
The value was good for the location. Some of the rooms seemed a bit older than others, but the reception desk area was very new and modern looking. There was also a small breakfast restaurant and bar area. Every room seems to have the same photo of the famous Römerplatz (or Römer Square) which is actually rebuilt from modern materials to look like the original half-timbered buildings destroyed in WWII.
The Leonardo Hotel Frankfurt City Center was not as good as the Ramada Hotel down the street, but it served our needs for parking and was close to public transit.
