Not only is the city of Leon beautiful there is also a lot of history. There are many interesting moments in Leon’s past, one being that the city used to be located about 20 miles away from where it is currently. In 1610 there was an eruption of the Momotombo Volcano which caused damage and took lives so the people decided to move the city to where it is located today.
The city’s architecture is very beautiful, there is a lot of Spanish Colonial influence. The colors and the buildings are vibrant and pleasing, very Central America.
The main Cathedral was built in 1706-1740 and is Central America’s largest Cathedral. This Cathedral is located to the central park and is a very active location in Leon. There are also many street vendors located along the sidewalk of the Cathedral.
Another interesting point in Leon’s history is there was a constant battle weather Leon or Granada should be the capital of Nicaragua until in 1858 there was a compromise and Managua became the permanent capital.

Another day, another volcano! This hike was to have a different ending though as instead of walking down the mountain, the descent of this volcano was to be much faster than walking and well, a lot more fun! Someone not too long ago came up with the great idea of volcano boarding, which is basically as it sounds - climb up a volcano and then whizz down it at lightning speed sitting on a board!! Apparently the Australian bloke who came up with the idea invented the current 'board' after t...

Dear Simon and Ria: I didn't go on the volcano slide, it looks frankly dangerous and I am concerned about the environmental impacts.  Plus, the orange jumpsuits jar with my complexion.ChristThis place is hot.  Really, breathtaking hot. Unlike Granada, there is no lake breeze that whisks through the town which at least helps the sweat evaporate and cool oneself.  Most travellers to Nicaragua know about the rivalry between Leon and Granada - in a nutshell, Granada is full of tori...

Ok so i have been here in Nicaragua now for around 29 days, and im loving it! This place is great! There is so much to see and do, and its so pretty. I have been to Granada and and am now staying in Leon,  i found Granada a really nice place to be. The biuldings here are so old and colonial, the place is so colourful, just how it looks in the book, as sometimes you dont expect it to look so nice, but well this place was really nice. When we arrrived we decided to stay at a place called t...

We have managed to get a shuttle bus to Granada for Friday 26th, Same price as coming this way.  I dunno if i am actually looking forward to going back yet.  Iam so relaxed in this country, its more a hazy place, and i do enjoy it more, but we want to get into Peru so much now.  We have decided we might travel into Boliva and Brazil, we know where we going in Peru, so thats all set out, tho with the prices that the agents are charging its quite shocking.  For instance i ha...
