Not all is what it seems at Leinster Gardens Mar 14, 2015
If you were to walk down Leinster Gardens you would think nothing of the old terrace buildings as they all seem pretty normal.. well think again! What you may not notice is that 23 & 24 are actually fake. They have no number on the wall, no door handle, no post box and if you look close enough you'll see that they have no windows either. Everything about these "properties" is fake. But why?

When the underground was being built between Bayswater and Paddington the houses were demolished so vents could be created as the underground trains originally ran on steam and they didn't want smoke in the tunnels. But as the area is upmarket a fake front was created to hide this from the residents.

The fake front is so convincing that i actually managed to walk past it when looking for it and i knew which numbers were fake! I only noticed when i looked up and saw the grey painted on windows. But if you walk around the back on Porchester Gardens you can clearly see the front is fake.

This fake house is best known for the prank that was pulled in the 1930s. Tickets were sold to a charity event at 23 Leinster Gardens so people gathered outside the property in their evening wear to discover the event was fake. Whoops!

So, while i wouldn't say this is a must see attraction in London, if you're in the area you should check it out. The property is not far from Paddington station and right by Kensington Gardens which is definitely a park you'll want to visit. It's stunning!
