Lee Vining Overview

Lee Vining is a dinky village at the southern lakeshore of Mono Lake, California. Total population is about 500. It is a former mining camp that had been founded in 1852. The village itself is of no relevance. But its location gives the place a kind of significance. Lee Vining is a perfect starting point for trips to Mono Lake and the ghost town of Bodie. It also serves as a stopover for tourists travelling from Nevada to Yosemite NP. It is the closest 'city' to the east entrance. Besides the campground and Motels some restaurants, service stations, a market, churches, and other visitor servicread morees are available.
