Le Raizet, Pointe-a-Pitre Airport, Guadeloupe Les Abymes Reviews
Very welcoming Apr 22, 2012
We were almost the last ones to leave the aircraft and walk the long bridge to the main terminal that was surprisingly modern. Next to our plane there was a similar plane embarking with probably just as many people but they were a bit after us. There was no queue at the immigration as most of the people were French and they just walked by. I managed to get an immigration stamp in my passport and had a huge smile from the girl behind the counter.
The luggage delivery was just downstairs from the immigration and here the fun started; there was a calypso band entertaining. I had never seen anything like this before in an airport but it was really welcoming and it made everybody relax and no one concentrated on the slow delivery of the suitcases, everybody just relaxed and started their mental holiday. We were both enjoying the atmosphere so much that we didn’t see that our suitcases already were on the belt.
We grabbed our bags and as the airport is quite small it was no problem to pass the custom and exit the closed area. Outside the atmosphere was still calm and the best part of it was that we were not met by any hostlers or anybody similar to that. Many had arranged pick-up but we were renting a car so we had to locate the car rental area that was located just outside in an annex to the main terminal.
