Le Mornea Hotel
Le Mornea Hotel Reviews
Trendy & comfortable by the beautiful beach with great moutain view!! Mar 24, 2009
Upon arrival, we were greated warmly, with fresh hot towels and fruit punch. The lobby is nice and new with modern settings. Instead of checking in at the counter like most hotels, we were told to relax on the sofas and the staffs came over to procees our check in. They explained in detail facilities of the hotel, mealtimes, performances... etc. (most importantly, they explained a great deal on the performances at Indian resort and the facilities that they share, which is a huge deal to us).
Our room was alright, but the water was leaking in the toilet, so we made a complain to the reception and they changed us to another room. We had no other problems in the other room. Nice sea view, clean, furnitures to me were alright, clean comfy bed, new linens everyday, bathroom was adequate, 2 basins, 1 tub, 1 shower cubicle. Warm water works fine. Toiletries replenished every day, fresh bath towels and beach towels everyday, air cond was fine, fridge wasnt noisy (the fridge sits inside a cabinet actually so it had to be really very noisy if you still can hear it after closing the cabinet door). Has a big lounge outside the bedroom area, which was comfy for chats or wine sessions before bed with my hubby.. :)
As for the F&B, I agree selection is limited. Mostly rice, vege dish, fish, some potato or pumpkin dish, selection of salad, lamb or steak (alternate nights) and about 3 to 4 dishes of desert. It was enough was us, but limited comparing to what Indian Resort has. (but we pay lesser, so I guess we made do). Breakfast was the same every single day. They have toast actually! Maybe you missed it.. its at the far left.. near the coffee station. Usual cereal, yoghurt, bacon, bread, baked beans, ommelete station and some fruits. Maybe for us its enough, would say we had a hearty breakfast every day!! :)
Yes, there are no shops at all around the hotel. We are situated by the mountain. Nearest town is about 15 mins drive away. Luckily, I did some research before going there, so we rented a car to drive around. Therefore, being on half board, we had no problem exploring the local towns around us for lunch. Local food was really tasty and cheap!!!! There is a public beach within walking distance from the hotel actually.. about 5 mins walk, they have a few vans selling local food too. Cheap and yummy!
I would recommend anyone who plans to rent a car to stay in Le Mornea. Mainly because the view is simple amazing here, a combination of moutain and sea view. Beach is clean, private (though few locals walked in once in a while thru the public beach), and plenty of water sports for us to try at Indian Resort. We were hanging out mostly there, in their pool which is big and clean, their beach, tried kayaking, snorkling, can also try wind surfingand parasailing, all for FREE! :)
Even at night we hung out at Indian Resort a lot, especially the Sega Dance on Saturday! We had really good seats and enjoyed the whole show! Some nights we enjoyed the band here too. However, I still think the band in Le Mornea hotel is better, but when it rains, i preferto chill out in Indian Resort (indoors)
Also, a 20 - 30 mins drive to black river, we went swimming with the dolphins, and BBQ by bennicier beach. And we took a long drive to the east, scenic route and took lotsa pics along the way. Then we took a boat to ile aux cerf, amazing little island.
We drove to port louis too, about 45 mins drive, not as scenic as the east roads. From port louis we drop up to grand baie, check out the beach there, had lunch and came back in the evening.
We also drove to quatre bornes, rosehill, curepipe.. etc. All in all, it was a wonderful honeymoon, loads of exploring the island, tried local food, chat with the frienly locals, lovely beach exprience... simply loved it!!!
