Definitely rooms with a view. A slight hiccup when we arrived with our room which was resolved to our satisfaction. Friendly staff who seemed genuinely pleased to see guests after what has been a very quiet time for the Egyptian tourist industry. Can recommend the Tex Mex restaurant and the locally produced beer and wine.

Faded Elegence Dec 01, 2010
Being that Le Méridien is a world-renown brand you can expect that you'll always get a fairly decent night with them and its no different in their Giza hotel. However this has the distinct feel of faded elegence as the interior could really do with an uptdate and while the food was good it wasn't exceptional. Yet you have the feeling the hotel believes itself to much better than it is, with plenty of pointless staff milling round to do the most mundane things for you that you don't particularly need.

Case in point; do I need a guy to lay a towel out for me next to the pool? Especially when its so smogy outside you don't want to sit out there. The pyramid view is kind of a con too as you can't see through the haze.

That said, everything works fine and its clearly one of the better place is town. Compared to some of the places we could have stayed, its not a bad option. Proximity to the Pyramids really makes no difference as its not like anyone would be insane enough to walk to them as to do that you'd need to cross the road: one of the things, along with drinking tap water, the hotel strongly suggests you don't do. Checkin system was also bizarre and overly complicated with the baggage but as they say, when in Rome....

Figuratively, at least.

Superb Dec 04, 2009
We stayed at Le Meridien for one nite and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was! we had a beautiful view of the pyramids from our balcony, and the room was spotless, very clean, roomy, and nice. The beds were extremely comfortable and the shower was great. Good breakfast, and wonderful customer service as well. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The Only Review You Need Oct 22, 2009
Location: A short 10 minute walk to the main gate of the pyramids. The area is safe, and those people who said it was unsafe either have very bad luck, bad timing, or were overly paranoid. It is very safe and the tourism police are everywhere. If you tip them, they will even walk with you if you are truly paranoid.

The rooms: We stayed in the starwood preferred guest floor. If you aren't a member sign up immediately. Our rooms were very nicely designed and they were very quiet. Some people complained about traffic noise. We never heard anything. If you are a light sleeper, just take some earplugs just incase, but I think the way some people were reviewing this hotel for the street traffic noise, I think they might have some OCD.

The pool: We drank here daily after visiting sites, and it is great. The only problem is it closes at sunset which is incredibly lame. Once the sun sets, the pool staff seem to get rude about getting people out of the pool. Not a big deal since the water is chili anyway, but I think they were overly rude to one old guy who was in the water.

I read all of the reviews about this hotel before coming here and was worried about this place. Now after staying here I know that those bad reviews are not the standard for this hotel, and it is much more likely that the reviewers are the type of travelers who get mad if it isn't exactly how they would do it back home. These people have more money than brains if you ask me and should stay home where they are comfortable.

Also, cab prices was a big concern for me from this hotel. Here is what we paid:

Private car from front desk taxi service to Khan El Kalili with a stop in the Giza market was 80 EGP. On the board it said 150EGP I believe.

Home from Khan El Kalili in a metered taxi was 34 EGP.
