Le Marchés de Noël de Colmar Reviews
Magical Xmas Villages Mar 04, 2014
Coming a tropical country like Singapore where its either hot sun or rain at the end of the year, I have always wanted to experience a REAL Xmas market so my dream came true in December 2013.
There are 5 Xmas markets to check out in Colmar (the biggest located at the Old town):
1. Places des Dominicians (outdoor market, nearest to the Church);
2. Place Jeanne d'Arc (outdoor market selling local traditional products)
3. Place de'l Ancienne (outdoor market beside Koifhus);
4. Indoor market Koifhus (indoor market);
5. Petite Venice (Children's market).
The whole town is practically decorated to give it an extremely Christmassy feeling :) Not to mention plenty of photographic opportunities ;)
I tried the yummy Vin Chaud from the many Vin Chaud stalls & yummy chocolate balls. You can also grab light snacks from the various food stalls.
People with kids will love Petite Venice where the Children Market is at. There are plenty of toys, games such as wooden horse merry-go-round etc to keep children occupied while adults shop around the market. There are plenty of things to buy at the Xmas markets whether or not related to Xmas. You can find plenty of Xmas decoration stuff, Alsace yummy goodies, antiques, Alsace handicrafts, Wine/ Beer.
So if you like traditional types of Xmas markets, this is the place to be. I am sure there are plenty in Europe & USA but this was my first & I loved it.
