Le Comptoir Libonaise is a wonderful café in the Oxford Street area of London.
It also has a delicatessen.
Located about a block from Oxford Street, in the heart of tourist London, I was
very surprised by both how good this café is and how cheap it is. You can get a
good meal including non alcoholic drinks for less than ten pounds, which is
amazing. The food is basically Lebanese, which is somewhere between Greek and
Middle Eastern in taste. There are lots of tagines and wraps, and I had cheese
pastries (bang goes the diet) and a wonderful, light, spicy lentil soup. As
soup is one of my favourite foods, I was very happy indeed.
They don’t have an alcohol license, although you could bring your own wine. I
didn’t notice what corkage would be, though, because I was overwhelmed with the
range of lovely lemonades. I tried the apple and ginger lemonade which was
Lemonade, soup, bread and pastries came to the very reasonable £10 plus tip.
The service was lovely, and I had a great light meal. I will probably go back
and try the tagine next time.
