Le Comptoir Darna Marrakech Reviews
How is this place not on TravBuddy?? Aug 06, 2012
I'm amazed that this place has not been added to TB that I had to add it straight away!!
Definately one of the hot spots in Marrakech you must go to.
Le Comptoir Darna or just 'Comptoir' as its more commonly called is a real gem of a restaurant / bar that you HAVE to visit when in Marrakech.
I've been Marrakech a few times now and this is always a place we'll visit.
The decor is a cross between a Moroccan Palace and a trendy London Bar; traditional yet stylish.
This place will definately take you by surprise.
The music starts of mellow and ambient which progresses to more faster paced arabic house music as the night progresses.
Comptoir has both a restaurant and a bar; there are booths and tables in the upstairs lounge with the bar and a DJ if you like Moroccan house music mixed with traditional sounds with your meal. We mostly sit upstairs because theres always a real buzz and party atmosphere.
If you fancied more of a mellow atmosphere, you can sit downstairs in the restaurant or in the outside covered terraces.
The food is amazing! All of it. From tradition fayre to fusion east meets west; the food here will never dissapoint.
As the food winds down, the entertainment begins with live belly dancing and all the clapping and fireworks and hurrah that goes with it. I have to say the dancers here are some of the most beautiful we had seen in Marrakech and men and women alike were mesmerized by their beauty!!
This is a more upper market venue and the service is 5 star so naturally the prices are on the dearer end but its all worth it when you take into consideration the good food, good drinks, ambience and quality service.
On their old website, they boasted A List celebrities of the likes of Will Smith, Laurence Fishburn, various French footballers etc and even King Mohammed IV himself but I can't seem to find these pictures on the newly revamped website.
This place definitely attracts the more chic clientèle.
There is a good mix here of tourists and more well off locals.
Use this place as a nice end to an evening for some great food in the restaurant or start your evening here and then head out to one of the Clubs. This place will definately put you in the party mood. (I suggest Club Silver which I will also add a review about) but do not be put off if you prefer your evenings a little quieter.
This place is similar to Palace Jad Mahal, though Jad Mahal is probably slightly more expensive but I find it better at Comptoir. Palace Jad Mahal is also a nice place, great food etc but you'll find its full of older French tourists and it takes itself a little too seriously but the vibe here in Comptoir is perfect.
Book in advance especially on weekends and for groups of 6 or more who want dinner with the music, ask for the corner booth upstairs!
In summary, not for the money conscience traveller (though the prices aren't really out of this world), a funky happening place to be for young and old alike with great food, atmosphere and service perfect for just a meal, just drinks or both! They also do Sheesha.
No visit to Marrakech is complete without a visit to Le Comptoir ;)
