Le Château Fort de Fleckenstein Vosges Reviews
Touch the past! Aug 24, 2011
Fleckenstein Castle (Le Château Fort de Fleckenstein), located in the Parc naturel regional des Vosges du Nord, was one of the most magnificent Alsatian castles centuries ago. Nowadays its remaining ruin is a magnet for visitors from near and far.
Fleckenstein Castle, surrounded by extended forests and rough rocks, was once an imposing fortress for the Alsatian nobility. It’s almost unbelievable how this wonderful piece of architecture was built in the 12th century. The castle reached the state of absolute completion and liveliness in the early 17th century.
I especially liked the authentic atmosphere visitors can experience while exploring the castle’s narrow aisles and high towers. You feel like in a very special kind of maze which gives the opportunity of experiencing the past.
If you’re interested in getting to know all of Fleckenstein’s secrets you are more than welcome to take part in a unique paper chase called ‘Fleckenstein’s Riddles’. Follow the written signs and audible hints …
It’s also possible to book an hour-long guided tour.
Besides a great plus are the trilingual information panels (written in French, English and German) so that most of the visitors can easily gather interesting facts.
You can visit Fleckenstein Castle daily from 10am to about 5.30pm during Spring, Summer and Autumn. Whereas opening hours are shortened in Winter. The ticket office closes half an hour earlier.
Fleckenstein Castle sitting enthroned high above beautiful scenery is doubtlessly worth an expedition!
